Something Blue

I hadn't given much thought to the old tradition of "something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue." I guess I just had so much going on that it was the very least of my worries. Once we were home however, I saw my perfect something old, borrowed and blue all in one on my mother's hand!

It was my great grandmother's engagement ring. I remember the days of my mother asking for her grandmother's engagement ring from my grandmother and the emotion and love behind the request. My great grandfather couldn't afford a diamond for my great grandmother's ring, so instead he chose a beautiful setting with a blue glass stone for her. Later on down the road he eventually gave her a diamond engagement ring, but she always kept her original e-ring, and there it was on my mother's finger - old, borrowed and blue in one fell swoop.

I made a special request for our photographer to capture the exchange between my mother and me because it in a family of few heirlooms this was a big moment. The following morning my grandmother I teared up when she told me how much she loved that I wore her mother's ring.

Up Next: Let's get Bridal! Time to put on the dress!

This is the sweetest thing: I know exactly what you mean, coming from a family of few heirlooms myself. (must be a western PA thing)
