A Day to Delegate

I woke up feeling better than expected the morning after our joint Bachelor/ette party and went straight to work on our paper poms. It was a big day, bigger than I expected and therefore forgot to document half of the day in photos! It was the day of delegation. On 'paper' the day looked so innocent..

First I checked the weather which was officially calling for rain on our wedding day. Luckily I had sent out a rainy-day plan to all the vendors and wedding party, but we needed umbrellas and I needed consoling. After making a million tiny paper poms to decorate the bus we'd ride around in, I had to kiss them good bye or let them turn to mush in the rain. Mean while Chris had driven to Pittsburgh to pick up our cheeses and get a last minute groomsman gift.

All the flowers had arrived, some from an online order, some from my fabulous florist friend's car, but we had no vases. Remember we had lost half a day clearing the barn and I no longer had time to go to the craft store to pick them out. At some point I realized our signage was pointing the wrong way. The tables and chairs had arrived at our reception site the day before, but they couldn't be arranged how we planned and I was informed our seating chart had to be tossed out. Besides all that needed doing, I had a nail appointment with my bridesmaids, the rehearsal dinner and rehearsal, followed by dessert at my family's home to attend.

I could have exploded, but instead I tryed to delegate. Even though I was able to pass out tasks, it was difficult being needed for every decision. So the time I spent consulting was eating at my time to do other tasks. A wedding planner was looking really good right about then!

With my mother getting vases, my father fixing the signs, and FFIL looking for giant umbrellas, I was able to get my nails done in time to go to dinner at 3:30. Instead of doing the rehearsal followed by a meal we decided to do the meal with a limited number of guests, followed by the rehearsal, followed by dessert for all to enjoy. It came down to cost and wanting to give our wedding party a proper dinner while still being able to give our guests a means to see us the day before.

After the nail appointment I had just enough time to slip into my dress and head out for dinner. On the way, I sat in the back seat with our laptop coming up with a new seating chart. Luckily, having reworked it many times, I was able to come up with a new plan by the time we arrived at the restaurant. It was time again to try to let go and relax and ignore the list of to dos swarming around in my mind.

Up next: The dinner, rehearsal, dessert, and an impromtu photoshoot!
