*First Look*

One advantage of getting married in our hometown was being able to take photos at locations that sparked memories of our dating days. One such spot was right next to the chapel where we were getting married and also the spot I chose for our first look.
On one of our earliest dates, Chris and I had for some reason ended up strolling late at night through the college in town only to be caught in a thunderstorm. We took cover underneath a patch of trees that hung over a few benches (psst, see the benches above?). Eventually a little orange kitty found us and waited on the storm on our laps, which I named Orval Redenbacher, because it's fun to say! We must have been there for hours, and the storm only got worse. It was getting late and we knew we were out past our curfew, so we made a muddy run through the rain to my parent's house. We were soaking wet, muddy, and I'm pretty sure - in trouble for being out late. Now we were back again to celebrate our marriage, and hopefully stave off the rain for at least a few more hours.
Chris took his place in the garden. He waited nervously and anxiously for my arrival, while his groomsmen watched, and cameras clicked. Meanwhile I was hidden away with my bridesmaids in our photographer's van.
I waited and waited in our photographer's car, then finally decided it was time! I'm coming for you! After the a few groomsmen tried to stop me because they had no idea I was actually supposed to see Chris, I made my way carefully down a trail to my Groom.

My thought bubbles for Chris: "Uh oh, I hear a rustling! Is that her?" (No one told him I was on the way.)
.
OMG I think it's her....
This is it. She's coming. Breathe. Breathe. (mean while my thought bubble would be "eeeeeeee!")
*Tapity tap*
"HIIIIIIII!!"
*HUGS*
Let's get a look atcha.

Thought bubble, "Not baaad.. not baaaad at all."

Teehee. Ok I guess we are done oogling each other! Time for a new spot - and we completely forgot to take our formal portraits here, or at all, since this was when we were supposed to do it! I assumed our photographers would have asked us about it at some point, since I marked it as something we wanted. Oh well! Back to being full of "teehees" -
Even though we didn't have that same moment of coming down the isle never having seen each other before, I think I definitely preferred having the first look. It gave us lots of time to bond before the ceremony, and to have a semi-private moment to appreciate the day and check each other out. I like to think it also made our wedding day that much longer! And even still it was gone in a flash.
Up Next: Our SWEEEET ride - the short bus.
