Small Plates. Big Meal.

As you may notice when our invitations arrive (next week fingers crossed) that we are serving small plates at our wedding. At first you may think - note to self, hide a sandwich in my purse - but never fear your stomach will be full! So what's the deal with the small plates? Here in SF CK and I often enjoy our neighborhood restaurant EOS. The concept here is that you order several dishes, with around 6 bites of food each, and share them family style. Here is one of our FAVE dishes from EOS, the shiitake mushroom dumplings. Mmm num num.

For our wedding we've cut out the family style concept and ran with the idea of serving a variety of plates with a few bites on each. Still a skeptic? My parents recently went for a tasting with a fantastic local caterer who specializes in action stations with small plates. They tasted several dishes and my Father left feeling satisfied. Now mind you that was sans appetizers and dessert, and my father is a 6 foot tall guy! And with a stationed meal we already account for a little extra food on top of having people like my mom, who ate four dishes and was full, leave more for those of you who will want twice as much. The best part about this concept is food displays like these...

via Style me Pretty. Pretty display, picture bigger portions and servings on single plates:

Same source, but with desserts so picture main course food!

And Callahan Catering - as seen in Martha Stewart Weddings. Swoooon.

So you'll pick and chose what you like. You can even take one and mingle mingle, then take some to your seat. Whatever suits you! For the vegetarians and lactose-intolerant, no fear we have you in our minds as well. If I still haven't convinced you then you'll just have to trust us that our small plates, plus our favorite cheeses, bread, nuts, dried fruits, and fresh veggies with dip, and some fabulous wedding cake will be enough to make your belly round. And when the feeding frenzy is over, we hope you'll dance it all off with us into the night!
