Why My Veil was Extra Special.

You may not know, about one month before the big day I was still debating over what sort of veil I wanted to wear for our big day. Here I am in a local salon trying on veils with my dress. I tried on plain, pencil-edge, lacy, sparkly, long (make that extremely long), and short veils, and this is the one that sort of stole my heart.

It was also one of the most expensive veils in the shop - and would have to be rush ordered because it was about 6 weeks till the big day. While I had been given money to afford the veil, thanks to a generous Mother, I just could not bring myself to spend it! This would reflect my Father's traits in me - spending so much money on a veil that I would wear for mere hours? No. Couldn't do it. But I also couldn't picture myself without it.

At now 4 weeks to go, it was time for action. I searched for instructions on how to make a veil myself and made several stops back and forth to a fabric store to check out materials while I battled my indecision. Should I make a veil? Should I just buy a pencil edge from a cheapo store? Then I came across a response by "DoctorGirl", one of the WeddingBee's Hostesses, in a thread offering someone instructions on how to make a veil. I contacted her for the instructions and sent her pictures of what I was going to attempt to make. And then something too nice for words happened - DoctorGirl offered to make the veil for me so she could make a step by step tutorial for the site! She just asked that I send her the materials so I would definitely get what I wanted.

Scampering off to the store like a kid off to the candy shop, I picked out a light weight very flexible ivory tulle with the goal of creating a veil that would not be pouffy. I then found some lace that was not only on sale because they had received too much, but that also had a double pattern so it was like two for one! In other words, if I cut the lace down the center, I would not have two pieces of the same lace pattern! SCORE.

A few emails and 1.5 weeks later I had a beautiful veil in my arms that cost well under 1/5 of the salon veil. Are you ready to see this beauty in action (again)??

I just loved how it turned out!! Sadly there aren't any good pictures the veil from our wedding day. Most of the Pro pictures were cropped so you can't see the whole veil or were taken from too far away, so the hubs took a few pictures at home recently you can really get a good look at it (below). Note to brides, make sure you request shots of things like handmade veils!
