Sophie, meet the park.

A little something non-wedding. I've been saying it since college: if we had a cat in San Francisco, I'd want to take it to the park. I can't tell you how many people gave me grief about this. Growing up with cats that roamed freely in our backyard made me believe even a city cat needed some outside time.

So when Sophie came along, I began taking her out in a harness on our fire escape. She's always been so dramatic about it, being fine while she sits on the escape with her tiny felt carpet, but then collapsing onto a chair when she wants back in as though her the harness paralyzed her. Well today was her big day! We took a break form all the wedding planning and headed to the park. It's sunny, but not too hot so the dog walkers wouldn't be out in full force. With out further ado, I give you: Sophie in the park.

Initially she was anxious to get out.

But I was scared she'd run for the hills, so I held on to her.

Luckily she never wanted to flee. When she was scared she'd slink into the back of her carrier and lay down for a bit. But in bouts of bravery, she came and sat with us. Excuse the blury picture.

For the most part, no one even noticed some crazy folks were out in the park with their cat. There was only one incident when a guy whipped his gross doggy ball two feet away from me, and a massive lab came running at us. Luckily our cat was getting sleepy in her carrier and I was the only one who was having a heart attack. We're so encouraged by this outting! Sophie will defintely be making future trips to the park.

Sophie is a excellent cat name! And why shouldn't she frolic in the park?
