Flight Stalking

Worth it? I will admit I stalked our flights home for the wedding. What sparked this behavior? Besides being half the product of my Father, I had seen early early on direct flights home on USair that were around $300 each. Direct! Only two airlines fly SFO to PIT direct - that's 4 hrs vs 8 hrs and a guarantee my dress makes it home! Alas I did not buy them because it was so far in advance, and of course the price went right up to $600. Eeek.

So I began stalking hoping to see that juicy price tag again, but preparing myself to dish out the extra cash. I read up on the best time to buy airfare, and days people generally believe will have the best price (tuesday) - weekends were said to be the worst buy times. Well last thursday, a little less than 5 months before the wedding, the Usairways flight I stalked said sold out!

Oh no! My stalking didn't pay off. Or did it!? The United direct flight that had been more expensive so I had ignored it, went down nearly 50% thursday! How does this make sense? It doesn't. So I bought two! But, two days later - on the weekend mind you - I see the flights are now $50 cheaper!! Sheesh. I called for a voucher, but I truly think there is no win with this. At least I purchased our tickets - how would you feel about attending a wedding where the Bride and Groom attended via webcam??

If you need help finding a flight for our wedding let me know, I'll be happy to stalk tickets for you. Southwest generally has good prices to PIT, Continental sometimes better, but United and Usair are the only carriers that will take you direct from SFO, USair offering a redeye (ick) and United offering a day time direct.
