One thing I love about our venue is that the owner strung lights along the beams in the barn. It's a nice touch, but he chose really small lights so it's not really as wow as we like wanted our decorative lighting to be. Here is a picture of our venue while it was still under renovation while the lights were up. There are also two wagon wheel lanterns that will light up the space, but they aren't very decorative.

This week my Father will visit our reception venue, hopefully in the evening, to help us decide how we could use decorative lighting in the space. After considering ideas far and wide we thought a good place to start is to see how many outlets we'll have access to and what the hanging possibilities are. Below are some lighting inspirations I've gathered over the past few months that we are mulling over.

Hanging light bulbs. I will say this is my favorite idea. The only problem is the ceiling of the barn/reception gets pretty high, making hanging lots of individual anythings difficult without a huge ladder. I'm also not sure how the wiring would work. Would we need an outlet for each?

Paper lanterns. This is an idea that I like, but feel like I see it everywhere. Chris made a good point that chances are our guests have not seen them as much as I have, since I am all over the wedding blogs these days. So maybe we'll have lanterns, but I like the idea of bunching them together instead of sprinkling them around throughout the space. I'm picturing bunches of maybe 5 lanterns hung in 7 different spots around the barn. This is the closest image I could find to the idea.

Lastly, string lights. This is an unexpectedly expensive option. If we go with the C7 string lights, we'll need around 20-30 strands, which is a bit pricey. But just look at this inspiration photo, how can could we not consider doing this?

Wowza. What a beautiful picture. Any of these ideas will take a bit of work! Luckily we have some time on our hands before the wedding to (hopefully) get it all done.
