Wendy Kromer

I have been a huge fan of Martha Stewart's wedding cakes for years and years. I even purchased a huge MS cake decorating set in hopes of making some fabulous cakes myself. When we got engaged I immediately began to think of the wedding cake. I happened to flip through and see a MS show on her wedding cakes, and learned that Wendy Kromer made most of her amazing cakes (see above) - and her bakery was only two hours from my parent's house!!

We flew home this summer to for two weddings in PA and did some wedding duties including a tasting at Wendy Kromer's. I was told Wendy would be in NYC (sigh), but when we showed up.. there she was! I was so excited I think I might have come off as a bit crazy at first.

There were 8 different cakes (white, yellow, vanilla pound, red velvet, dark choco., mocha, spice, & almond), 15 buttercreams (reg., white choc., rum, orange, lemon, raspberry, passion fruit, milk choc., dark choc., mocha, hazelnut, choc. hazelnut, peanut butter, & yolk), two curds (lemon & passion fruit), raspberry preserve, two cream cheese fillings (plain & carmel), gnache, and fondant- not the nasty fondant but a marshmellowy unoffensive fondant.

She was friendly, professional, and happy to draw us up some sketches if we have a wedding back home. Chris really enjoyed them too, which is amazing since he's not a cake person. We left jittery from the sugar, but really satisfied with some delicious favorite combinations in mind.
